Communities are not here to last

Why the best communities fluctuate in terms of residents and apply the principle of dynamic stability.

September 20, 2022

You need change in order for momentum to keep up. Bringing in new people into a (coliving) community brings the freshness and diversity needed.

Communities are based on the principle of dynamic stability: it is the change in terms of experience, people and context that creates stability in the subjectivity of the experience - constantly feeding with freshness, newness, diversity.

My issue and pain of communities being dynamic entities disappears in light of that discovery: while I beforehand was frustrated that investing into a community does not mean keeping the bond with the same people, I now realize that change is the part that creates extreme beauty and preciousness: every community experience is an agglomeration of ephemeral states and contexts, making every day a new playground.

We need leaders who put momentum into action, who spin the wheel to create dynamic stability. And that requires visibility and influence.
